Microdermabrasion NYC

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure which gently resurfaces the skin.  Microdermabrasion exfoliation is performed with medical grade mineral crystals or diamond tip which brushes the skin's surface with the aid of a gentle vacuum. This action removes dead and damaged cells at the skin's surface.  By eliminating these surface cells with microdermabrasion, the skin is left soft and supple while forcing the regeneration of new skin cells.  Microdermabrasion at Bellair Laser Center is combined with a complete facial which includes treatment creams, a mask, high frequency and extractions if necessary.

Bellair Laser Center uses only FDA approved microdermabrasion systems which have been documented to effectively minimize the appearance of:

• Scars
• Hyperpigmentation
• Fine lines
• Sun damaged skin
• Blemishes
• Dull and congested skin
• Uneven skin tones and textural damaged skin
• Enlargened pores

After a microdermabrasion treatment, the skin may feel tight.  Some individuals experience light flaking of the skin, therefore, it is important to use a good moisturizer as advised by our skin therapists.   Otherwise there are minimal side effects, which is why microdermabrasion is often described as "the lunch hour" procedure.

Depending on the condition of your skin, our skin therapists may advise multiple treatments and/or combining microdermabrasion with Chemical peels, Photo Rejuvenation, and Laser Facial treatments for optimal results. Microdermabrasion facials are usually kept at 2-3 week intervals and maintenance treatments are usually performed once a month. Microdermabrasion treatments are approximately 45 minutes in length.

Before beginning microdermabrasion treatments at Bellair Laser Center, we encourage all clients to visit us for a complimentary skin consultation. At this time we will analyze your skin and provide recommendations for what treatment is best for you based on your skin’s needs and your personal goals for your skin.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF MICRODERMABRASION SYSTEMS

Dermabrasion:  Dermabrasion is an older system of exfoliation which actually penetrates deep within the dermis.  The procedure is very different from microdermabrasion as a high-speed rotary instrument with an abrasive brush is used to remove the outer layers of the skin.  Anesthesia is required.  This was used for scar removal and skin repair, well before fractional lasers and the Fraxel Laser were used for skin resurfacing.  Microdermabrasion targets the epidermis and not the dermis.

Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion:  Microdermabrasion with the diamond tip system involves exfoliation of the superficial layers of the skin with the aid of a gentle suction.  As the name sounds, the microdermabrasion handpiece has tiny diamonds on the tip which is used for skin exfoliation.

Crystal Microdermabrasion:  Microdermabrasion using corundum or aluminum oxide crystals are commonly used for skin exfoliation.  This system is one of the first system available for microdermabrasion.

Home based microdermabrasion systems:  These microderambrasion systems are generally product based.  Consumers should careful using anything with large grains as this could cause more harm than good.   Most home based systems tend to either strip the skin of its natural acidity which causes breakouts or are not aggressive enough to correct skin imperfections.  Before trying any home based microdermabrasion or skin exfoliation product, consult with a professional.
