Cellulite is located at the subcutaneous fatty layer. There are 3 different grades of cellulite:

Grade 1 classification sees no clinical symptoms, but a microscopic examination of cells from the area detects underlying anatomical changes.

Grade 2 cellulite requires the skin to show pallor (pastiness), be lower temperature, and have decreased elasticity in addition to anatomical changes noted by microscopic examinations.

Grade 3 cellulite has visible roughness of the skin (like an orange peel) along with all grade 2 signs.

Carboxytherapy is used for the treatment of cellulite and may be as well for fat reduction. Carboxytherapy works as follows; it improves circulation at the injection site by forcing red bloods cells to release oxygen and pick up C02 to be eliminated by the body. Some of the causes of cellulite may include the following:

• Hormonal factors: It is probable that hormones do play a factor in the formation of cellulite. Estrogen is responsible for the development of fat cells mainly around the breasts, thighs and buttocks. Progesterone can cause fluid retention, poor circulation, weight gain and in turn the development of cellulite.

• Genetics: Genes may predispose an individual to certain characteristics linked with cellulite. Some people are born with more fat cells, gender (females are more likely to develop cellulite), weak metabolism, circulatory insufficiency, fragile lymphatic vessels or poor circulation, etc.

• Diet: Although individuals of any shape or size could have cellulite, people who eat a lot of fattening foods, carbohydrates, or salt are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.

• Smoking: Nicotine found in cigarettes is a vasoconstrictor which means it can cause the constriction of blood vessels reducing microcirculation. Smoke is very damaging to capillary walls, which causes inflammation.

• Clothing: Tight elastic clothing around the waste or across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the creation of cellulite.
